Operation Intern Gains Momentum
It only took 10 short months to fully implement the Operation Intern program and create over 200 employment connections for North Dakota youth and businesses. Governor Hoeven's budget for the 2009 biennium includes an expansion from $600,000 to $1.2 million to move the program from over 200 internships to 400 to continue the positive workforce momentum in the state. Proposed changes to the program include funding for apprenticeships and participation from the 11th and 12th grades.
Success is being demonstrated in the exit review data as well. Of companies that completed internships and exit interviews, 73 percent reported that the experience is making it easier to find qualified/skilled workforce. 69 percent of students who have completed their experience and exit interview, reported the experience has influenced their decision to work in North Dakota and 84% of the students want to work in North Dakota.
